AI YAMAGUCHI

Yamaguchi's work came to Edition Works's attention when we were commissioned to print a series of lithographs of her work made between 2002 and 2003 entitled "H anabukuro", and which was exhibited at Gallery Eve. Her work had a very new and young feeling to it, and she didn't appear to belong to any particular group of artists Edition Works had worked with previously.
Yamaguchi produced the series of etchings entitled "Sukutoko" with Edition Works in 2003, with which she had a major one person show at Roberts & Tilton. The success of this show was the turning point for her. Both in Japan and overseas, she has gained attention and popularity with the collaboration entitled "shu by ai" with the cosmetics company "shu uemura".
In 2004, we produced a digital print "Hyaku no hana yuki wa furitsutsu " with Yamaguchi. And the first color etching for her entitled "kagamishigure" and the another small etching "N" were made in 2005.
The etching, produced and exibited at the end of 2006, entitled "tokuru kami no himagoto ni" appears her new feeling and style. It's expression is based on her new stream shown at the one person show held at Mizuma Art Gallery, in Tokyo 2007, that provided the big change of her existance in Japanese contemporary art scene.
