The lithographs of Yuji Akatsuka, which he has been working on for one year now, have been published. In combination with a number of sculptures the exhibition conveys a freer, more lighthearted feeling than is usually evident in his paintings. This makes for a very pleasant atmosphere in the gallery.
With the exhibitions of Editions Works's artists taking place, things are very lively! In particular please take a look at Noe Aoki's sculpture exhibition, which is a very large scale exhibition being held at Toyama's Nizayama Forest Art Museum. It is a slightly inconvenient place to reach but with the work spread out in such a large space, well worth checking out.

From 7-11 October in the area Minato-ku in the center of Tokyo, the Tokyo Designers Block 2004 was held. Every year, international and domestic designers attend this event with their work. It is possible to experience the flow of new designs at galleries, cafes, shops and other places. At the Idee Shop in Aoyama, a number of chairs designed by Akira Minagawa, of the mina perhonen fashion label were on show. As an item to put on show around the chairs Minagawa chose to the Edition Works's publication
' YORK HOUSE SUITE '. This is a series of color etchings by the artist Donald Baechler. These small figures of Baechler's gently surround Minagawa's relaxing chairs.

At Gallery Ikeda Bijutsu from 12-23 October Yuji Akatsuka's one-person show entitled ' GATE ' is being held.
Small bronze sculptures are on show in combination with the Edition Works publication of three lithographs also entitled 'Gate'. Since 1994 Akatsuka has made etchings with Edition Works a number of times but this time he chose lithography. While maintaining some of the qualities he pursued in etching, Akatsuka's use of lithograph's characteristics of fragility and luminosity are very impressive. While using a hard material such as bronze to make three-dimensional pieces, which retain a free shape and lithographs, which are printed on very soft and thin, handmade, Thai paper, Akatsuka has created a very interesting relationship.

NOE AOKI |
|
Noe Aoki's one-person exhibition entitled ' Sora no Mizu ' is being held at Toyama Prefecture's Nizayama Forest Art Museum in Nyuzen-machi from 8 October-19 December. The museum is located in a renovated hydroelectric power plant from the Taisho Period. While retaining the structure of that building and some of its atmosphere, the museum offers a very large space. Aoki's work merges within this special atmosphere, while rising up 9 meters high and seemingly extending the space. These forms, to a certain extent, conceal their softness and their strength can clearly be felt. |

The exhibitions of the new series of prints ' Tamakagiru ' and ' Shiratama ' have now finished. We hope to exhibit them again in the near future. Enquiries regarding these prints can be made directly to Edition Works.
