Kunsthaus Graz, where the "Chikaku" exhibition is being held, compared to regular art museums, has one, large distinction: in order to exhibit two dimensional work it keeps some flat walling and is not just a square exhibition space. Therefore, when exhibiting two dimensional work, walls are constructed each time. Rieko Hidaka's work is exhibited inside eight walls arranged in a circle. So, although each picture is painted while looking up from below, one is caught up in the sensation of being completely among the branches. Furthermore, with it not being an enclosed room, and with the feeling of envelopment, it is a pleasant space in which to pass through and abandon oneself to.
